We will have TWO one-week on-site camps this summer:
RCC - North: July 11-15 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Prince Frederick, MD and
RCC- South: July 18-22 at Middleham and St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lusby, MD
We still need volunteers at both camps...
Classroom Teachers - 8:30-noon-ish, Monday-Friday...no grading, No homework. Lesson plans for the week related to our theme that ENCOURAGE readers to have FUN (while practicing reading and writing skills). This is your opportunity to teach and encourage without the administrative tasks. Four to five groups of rising 3rd, 4th and 5th graders rotate through each 25-30 minute session. Group size ranges from 4 to 8 campers. Teachers will have at least 2 teen counselors assisting them, and usually one other teacher or adult assistant. Teachers may leave after the morning session, or stay for lunch or throughout the day (4:00) to assist with afternoon activities.
Afternoon Activity Leaders - afternoons 12:30 to 4:00 pm - Lead traditional camp activities for indoor and outdoor activities for 1 to 2 hours for 1 to 2 days during camp. Examples: Campers have rotated between Chess with Dr. Shishler ,TaeKwonDo with a local Instructor, and Outdoor Play with an adult leader and teen counselors. PE and Art Teachers have volunteered for an afternoon to lead an activity.
Volunteer Readers - One morning per week 8:45 am to Noon-ish One on one time with a camper to either read to the camper, or listen to the camper read from a book of their choice. Four to five groups of campers rotate every 25-30 minutes and you will spend 15-20 minutes of that time with your camper in the Pleasure Reading rotation. No lesson plans. No homework. One on one time creating a positive reading experience for a reluctant or struggling reader.
Our most pressing need is for Classroom Teachers to help with the instructional sessions at one or both camps. The two camps are coordinating the planning of activities and instructional activities, so now is the time to volunteer. At the North camp we are in need of a Writing teacher...at the South camp we are rebuilding and need teachers for Writing. We welcome RETIRED and CURRENT teachers to fill these roles.
Thank you so much for choosing us this summer.
