Scholarship Recipients for 2023

Four future educators were awarded $1,000 scholarships to the colleges of their choice by the Calvert Retired School Personnel Association (CRSPA). All were chosen for their academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and strong desire to become educators.

The scholarship recipients are: Abigail Simmons- Calvert High School; Rachael Heagy- Huntingtown High School; Izza Ahmad- Northern High School; Keira Humphreys - Patuxent High School.

 

Abigail Simmons plans to attend the University of Delaware with the goal of becoming a school system speech pathologist. At CHS, she participated in the Teacher Academy of Maryland, was a member of the National Honor Society, and received an Outstanding Youth of Calvert Award from the Optimist Club. Abigail was also a member of the school's swim team, captaining the squad her senior year.

Rachael Heagy hopes to become an elementary school teacher. While at HHS, she participated ni the Teacher Academy of Maryland, completing an internship at Plum Point elementary. She has been a member of the Broadcast Club for four years. Her outside activities include babysitting, volunteering at church, and assisting at summer camps. She will begin her college career at the College of Southern Maryland.

Northern High School's Izza Ahmad will matriculate at Vanderbilt University in the fall with plans to major in Computer Science. At Northern, Izza was active in Key Club, Student Government, Kindness Club, Patriot Outreach, Girls Who Code, and National Honor Society. She was the recipient of numerous awards and graduated second in her class.

Keira Humphreys plans to attend Note Dame of Maryland University with the goal of becoming a mathematics teacher. At PHS, she participated in the Teacher Academy of Maryland and completed a math teacher internship at a local middle school. She was also active in National Honor Society, Patuxent Harlequins, Patuxent Resonotes, Musical Theater, and participated in Al County Honors Chorus and the Maryland Theater Festival (ITS).
